Ash Grey Suede Leather Bomber Jacket

Ash grey sits in a strange, useful spot lighter and calmer than black, but without the commitment of a brighter color you'll think twice about wearing twice in one week. On suede specifically, the tone reads almost dusty in low light and noticeably warmer in direct sun, which is part of why suede holds color differently than smooth leather in the first place: the napped surface scatters light instead of reflecting it the way grain leather does.

The shell is genuine goat suede not split cowhide finished to look like suede, which is a common substitution at lower price points and wears very differently over time. Goat suede is naturally thinner and more supple than the sueded splits used in cheaper jackets, so it moves with you instead of holding a stiff, boxy shape. It's also more abrasion-resistant for its weight than most people expect from suede, though it shares suede's one real limitation: it's not built for sustained rain. A light shower won't hurt it, but this isn't the jacket for a day you know is going to be wet from start to finish.

Construction follows the standard bomber pattern: ribbed knit collar, cuffs, and waistband, finished in a tonal grey to match the shell rather than a contrasting color. The collar sits close enough to layer a scarf under without bulking up, and the ribbed waistband is what gives the jacket its shape at the hip instead of just hanging straight down like a shirt jacket would. Inside, a quilted lining adds warmth without adding much bulk to the silhouette enough to wear through cool fall evenings and mild winter days on its own, and enough to layer a sweater under when it gets colder than that.

Suede in particular is less forgiving to alter after the fact than smooth leather it doesn't take re-stitching or seam adjustment as cleanly so getting the size right at the point of cutting matters more here than it does on some of our other styles. A note on care, because suede gets treated too casually more often than not: it can't be machine washed, ironed, or put through a regular dry-clean cycle it needs a cleaner who specifically works with suede. Day to day, a suede brush removes dust and light surface marks without flattening the nap. Keep it away from water where you can, and if it does get rained on, let it air dry away from direct heat and brush it gently once fully dry to lift the nap back up.
